Brad Chapman joined the Coast Guard in 2006, just a few months after graduating high school. Brad built an impressive career in maritime service. He spent 12 years on active duty before transitioning to the reserves. He recently made chief and continues to serve to this day.
His deployments include two tours to Guantanamo Bay, one with a Maritime Safety and Security Team and another with a Port Security Unit. As a Maritime Enforcement Specialist, Brad has served as a boarding officer, law enforcement officer, and firearms instructor.

Brad’s path to One More Wave started unexpectedly during a Coast Guard training in Charleston. “We went to Folly Beach one Friday and met someone from Warrior Surf Foundation,” he said. “I thought what they were doing for veterans was incredible, and I started looking for something similar back home. That’s when I found One More Wave.”
He’s now been involved with the organization for about five years, joining veterans and their families in experiencing the joy and freedom of being in the water. “It’s like another family,” Brad said. “Everyone who comes out — whether they’re new to surfing or just there to hang out — feels that camaraderie again. We’ve all been part of a team before, and that connection comes right back.”

In 2025, Brad received a custom One More Wave surfboard, a bright yellow twin-fin that reflects his vibrant energy and love for the ocean.
For those curious about joining One More Wave, Brad’s advice is simple: “Just go once. You don’t have to surf—just come meet everyone. The community is so welcoming, and no matter your skill level, you’ll feel right at home.”
